Published on February 17, 2022 How to retain top talent and make WFH more enjoyable As we navigate through the COVID pandemic and its consequences. We realized that the more we tend to human needs, the more resilient we become. But retaining top talent has become increasingly difficult as we live in the most competitive work environment so far. Unfortunately, increasing the salary and thinking this exclusively will help retain talent, it’s a misconception. It might be an important factor, of course, but it’s not the only one. We would argue that things like work-life balance, recognition and meaningful work have started to be taken into account by employees.PGlmcmFtZSBzdHlsZT0iYm9yZGVyLXJhZGl1czoxMnB4IiBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vb3Blbi5zcG90aWZ5LmNvbS9lbWJlZC9lcGlzb2RlLzU2VnZVcDBFSWIxbDZZdDJXODZWc0E/dXRtX3NvdXJjZT1nZW5lcmF0b3IiIHdpZHRoPSIxMDAlIiBoZWlnaHQ9IjIzMiIgZnJhbWVCb3JkZXI9IjAiIGFsbG93ZnVsbHNjcmVlbj0iIiBhbGxvdz0iYXV0b3BsYXk7IGNsaXBib2FyZC13cml0ZTsgZW5jcnlwdGVkLW1lZGlhOyBmdWxsc2NyZWVuOyBwaWN0dXJlLWluLXBpY3R1cmUiPjwvaWZyYW1lPgIn this article, we will focus on 4 ways to retain top talent to keep employees connected, engaged and motivated. Flexibility We’re living in the most competitive work landscape so far, and we’re learning that our schedule doesn’t have to be 9 to 5 pm. Flexibility is key in allowing your workers to manage their work-life balance more flexibly. One of the main reasons people are seeking out new job opportunities is because they want a position with a better work-life balance and flexible hours, because the pandemic has undoubtedly changed their perspective over this. Fun and Well-Being Programs Well-being has been a top-ranked initiative in many companies that are supporting their employees in these difficult times, because they’ve proved to reduce stress while increasing well-being and health. Anything from online yoga classes, fun virtual team buildings, money management webinars or healthy recipes exchange - activities that will require more intention but that are crucial for creating new memories and replacing the unplanned work human interaction in a work environment. Purpose-driven culture By creating a purpose-driven culture, provides employees with a clear sense of what they’re doing, and this will be beneficial to employee engagement. When people look beyond what they’re doing but also consider their goals and the meaning of their work, they become part of something greater. Conclusion The pandemic led many to reassess their perspectives on work and life. Productivity, efficiency, and levels of satisfaction have been impacted in finding and retaining the best possible talent. Therefore, it’s more important than ever for companies to adapt to this new work environment and have an open mind, making this a top priority. -------------------------------------------------------------- Christian: You had mentioned something earlier where you would lose your top collector because they had to move. And now, because of working remote in many ways that you can actually potentially retain that. But there's a flip side to it that I've been finding in the greater contact center space, right, and I want your opinion in the ARM space. People have a lot more opportunity to find alternatives to it's not just I can retain that person is I have a lot more competition. Where that person that may have had one or five or 10 agencies they could work for in their physical footprint. They really have the whole country now that they could go, and be sought after for the skills that they have and the proficiency they have. How do you retain those top performers or even get those people to perform in today's age. Where they really do have a lot of opportunities where people are fighting for that talent now that they couldn't. When it was regionally based of where you can hire and have them physically there any insight into what you're doing at Applied innovation? Or what you've seen other people elsewhere in the industry at agencies that how did they retain that top talent when they really can't go wherever they want? Harry Strausser III: Well, you have to change the culture somewhat, right. And first of all, WFH isn't for everyone. There are people who don't want to work from home, you've got collectors that can't wait to get back to the office. We embrace remote work, we've got developers that work remotely. You're absolutely right. So the flip side, I've been hearing a lot about this from friends in the industry loads of people, I know that some agencies, they're able to maintain and keep people happier. On one hand, there's a wide market out there of people that are willing to to give additional incentive. So I think what we have to do to keep people is is make their their work-life and their work environment and the culture that you maintain a very positive experience. You might have to pay them a little bit more- there is one company that has talked about and you may have heard of them, where they have now gone to a four day workweek- so you can be remote, you can work four days in, which was a surprise to me . So I think once again, if your company is creative enough and open enough to embrace work from home, you also then have to realize that you might need to offer additional incentives for people to stay, maybe a little bit more money, maybe a little bit more fun. So I think continuing to offer programs that that will make that person's life a little more palatable, a little bit more enjoyable, and maybe not just standard ways that we incentivize, but maybe more unique individual ways. What you know, instead of having everything the same, what does collector a really like a need versus collector B, what's their life situation? Do they want more time off? Maybe they don't want time off, you know, but they they need a little bit more money or they really need that insurance. coverage that's important to them. So I think uniquely diving in to what is the true needs of each individual.
