With 7 children and a business, you’d think life is near imposible. Cathy Karabetsos, CEO and President of QCSS is set on proving otherwise!

Christian: How do you balance seven children and a business?

Cathy Karabetsos:

The first thing you do is know going into this you’re not really going to balance it – sort of.

There’s just so many books out there and authors screaming at me saying: “of course there’s balance! There’s balance in everything and I’ve sold millions of dollars in books.” There really isn’t!

This article is part of our podcast series. Listen to it here:

When I go home at night – do I make time for either cleaning or cooking or a meal with my kids?

Sometimes.

Sometimes it’s straight to the soccer mom hat and off to trainings – whether that’s child number 5, 6, or 7 – cause I still have three at home. Two still in college but they’re on their own. And then two married, one with a new grandson.

But there’s not really balance.

It’s Just a Matter of Prioritizing

Every day is different. If you choose to be an entrepreneur you have to know the game is – you have to go with the flow.

You need to stay organized, extremely organized, the more organized you are -great. But you also have to stay more flexible because your days will change.

Worst Case Scenario

You’ll have a podcast interview and then you’ll have a meeting you need to be at and then you’ll have a meeting that might crash or something might be burning and you have to put out a fire, and some kid has to be somewhere and you get a phone call from school and you have to cancel all of that and there’s ten feet of snow.

It’s just the name of the game – you just have to kind of juggle. You have to prioritize. You have to stay organized. You have to be ok with going where you need to go when you need to go.

You Gotta Be Flexible

Overall a day in the life of Cathy Karabetsos is:

Waking up, reading, getting children off to school, on busses.

After – breakfast, coffee with the husband, and then it’s planning out the day, taking a look at the calendar:

Where do I need to be? Where does he need to be? Which direction we need to go and plan for?

And then getting off to doing it, accomplishing what you need to accomplish and starting all over again after school.

And then hit reset.

Go big or go broke!
